Hi guys, just got back from a month away. Conditions looking good for some offshore this weekend – super light winds both Sat and Sun morn!
I’m thinking about heading out to troll for some spanish mackerel. They still around?
And any surface feeding going on in the seaway/broadwater? I’ve scooted out in the tinny the last couple of afternoons and there are lots of terns diving in the area between Wavebreak north to Crab Island – which is where the GT and Kings usually bust up about this time of year.
Any sightings? Lots of baitfish around at the moment?
Haven’t seen any catch photos on here lately either – let us know what you’re catching!
Mate I haven’t been out in seaway lately, tend to focus on other locations / species this time of year. Spanish have been wider ie 24F after last months dirty water, though they should be coming in closer again 18F etc.
Hey Wayno, not jacks though i wouldn’t mind chasing them. Have been chasing the macks with limited success due to conditions and dirty water. I also get into the banana prawns this time of year around Redlands and southern bay, plus having a go at muddies around the coomera with good results.
Big fat zeros mate.
This weekend I trolled from peel island all the way up to the Cape Morton & back around all the shipping markers.
Caught 6 nice Snapper at Curtain reef & a few just under Spotties.
Then trolled all the way back down to Peel Island.\
Today we trolled all the way from the Seaway down to Palmy reef & then out to the 24’s & back to the Seaway for zippo.
last week we got one Spanish trolling up to palmy and back.
But over all I’m considering selling the boats & buying some golf clubs lol
Sorry Wayno, been up to my eyeballs in work the last month or so. Ridiculously long hours… There have been some nice fish caught in the seaway last couple of weeks, some very good kingfish on microjigs as well. Best shot is to fish the incoming tide around the pipe and north wall and cleaner water with live herring. I find they work a bit better than pike or yakkas after a flood(herring getting washed out of canals etc)
Lots of little bust ups in the channel North of Wavebreak yesterday morn. I was only out briefly and couldn’t see what they were but they were small – maybe queenies or tailor. But good to see some surface action in the Broadwater! Hopefully a sign of things to come… And hopefully some big boys on the way. Would love to see the GT back surface feeding again this year…
The GT’s are there right now, this pic was taken by Ian Banks on Sunday. They will only come up to the surface if there is sufficient bait to warrant it. Are you seeing large schools of baitfish coming in with the tide? If not, then you may have to troll for the GT’s in the Northern Y, microjig the pipeline, or find them on the bottom at night either in the Northern Y or end of the North Wall on a run out tide and run a plastic through them.
