No worries mate the worst is the when the fly fisherman get up where you were.
Because they need a long distance to cast where as other boats jigging straight up n down you can get pretty close without any issues.
As for who eats them.
I don’t want to sound rude or arrogant, but if you knew how to clean Trevally up & knew how to cook. They can be a made feed.
But if you just stuck them in oven wrapped in foil. well even I wouldn’t touch them with a 10ft pole either.
Different fish for different recipes .
For me I never used to eat Bonito ever, just kept them for bait,
But a while back I tried them in a recipe I used to use Kingfish & Bonito tasted heaps better.
This is my Trev dinner here.
I cooked up 4 trevs here.
Of the 10 fish I kept. I gave 2 to my nabour, 3 to another mate & 4 for my family.
Fillet, Skin, Debone, cut the blood lines out.
Then thinly slice the fillets

But having said this.
If the good fish are on offer, then I will not be looking at a Trevally lol.
I am new here but I have been on quite a few fishing forums over the years and I see here too that it has its share of members that like to accuse fishos of killing fish. You know at the end of the day as long as every one sticks to the bag limits as prescribed by QLD laws then really picking on someone for keeping a few trevs seems pretty pointless and not very productive. I like to keep a few fish here and there but release most of mine but I don’t begrudge anyone keeping a feed as long as it is within bag limits and you will find most fishos feel the same. It is a small minority of greenie fishos that think they are fisheries officers that seem to think that we actually care what they think.
I stopped posting up my catches on forums a couple of years ago because of the heat I attracted over a big brissie river Threadfin that died on my line after my unsuccessful attempts to revive it a couple of years ago. So basically after that the other members lost my posts as a resource to help them catch Threadies. I even got threatened with violence after posting a photo with the background showing where I was.
You will find that if you attack those posting up there catches then the posts will stop coming and we will be all the poorer for it.
If someone is breaking a rule then sure, let them know but if they are within limits then keep your opinions to yourself unless you have something positive to add.
Basically I say congratulations on your catch of GTs and I hope they went alright on the plate. You have done nothing wrong keeping a few.
Bill,
I hear where ya coming from…i used to be on quite a few forums and after showing pics of a 60cm jack i caught in the broadwater, and being crucified for doing so im now really only on two forums and even then be careful of what i post.
Ive gone onto forums and spilt my guts as far as where, when and how and like you say coped heat for doing so.
This is where this forum is different, Craig has never held back on the info and the core guys on here are the same…Ask a question and you’ll always get the right answer…
The bit i dont get is some people can catch their bag of 45cm whiting and thats ok but you catch 1 60cm MJ and your the worst person…
Next time your in the seaway have a look on the green marker with the Lrg white sign on it, then read the A4 sticker thats been stuck on there…. whats it say Craig??
Thats my finest hour Wayno. You know you are doing a great job when someone goes to that much effort.
Everyone here, both the sportfishermen and and those who fish for the table have benefited from the open and free exchange of information and I don’t want this site turning into the others where reports are given without any information to back them up. Fish kept for the table and shown in pictures are ok, as long it’s within the regs and the fish is shown with respect, no bloodied corpses etc(unless shark attack).
Let that be the last word on this issue.
Spicy Chilli Trevally stew.
How to cook.
Fillet, Skin, de-bone & cut out blood lines.
Cut unto thin strips/
In the frypand add about 200g of butter, table spoon of Coconut oil. add chilly flakes, crushed Galic, Ginger powder.
Chop 2 onions, cook till soft and add in a mixture of green, red & yellow capsicum, add some ABC sweet Soya sauce.
cook till all ingredient as nice soft,
add a cup or 2 of water when it comes back up to the boil, add the fish pieces & stir in for about 2 minutes till the fish is cooked.

When I lived down in Newcastle I taught a lot of people where & how to catch what, gave them all my favorite spots that produced great fish.
But in return I asked them all to let me know when they are getting fish.
We ended up with a network of about 20 fisho’s that used share our info.
The benefit was that we knew where to start looking when were going out.
Saved a lot of time trying all the marks out till you found fish or didn’t.
Although I have learned who to share what with up here on the GC lol.
On the Monday we were the only ones Micro jigging & on the Wednesday there was about 20 boats doing it lol.
Since this is a site of sharing info I’ll be keeping it here
Cheers
Sean
Ill get the Mrs onto that recipe.
cheers
