Good afternoon. Startup question, so apologies if this is basic. We are three engineers building a proxy product and we need our own space rather than borrowing from a provider, since routing control and block history matter for what we do. We have no LIR membership, limited budget, and no institutional experience with any of this. Is the secondary market even accessible to a company our size, or is this a game for people with a network team and a lawyer? We have transit from a single upstream at the moment and no relationships anywhere else in the industry.

It is accessible, and small teams lease space all the time. You do not need LIR membership to lease, that is one of the main reasons small companies go that route. What you do need is an upstream willing to accept the LOA and announce for you, so confirm that with your transit provider before you sign anything. Block sizes usually start at a /24, which is plenty for three engineers. We started the same way, leasing IPv4 , from InterLIR Global before we had any real infrastructure. Honest caveat: for proxy workloads, ask specifically about the range’s reputation history, because inherited blocklist entries will ruin your week.
