A mate and I landed two mulloway this afternoon, both over 80cm. Despite our best efforts they wouldn’t swim away.
We swam them, speared them, tried every technique but none seemed to revive them. I have caught lots of mulloway around the 60cm mark and they usually release fine. Im not sure if this is just with the larger fish or..?
Big Mulloway are very hard to release alive, for that reason I only target them a couple of times a year just to make sure I can still get them. They require time to adjust thier swim bladder especially if they come out of very deep water which means holding them in the water for up to 20 minutes. You can use a release weight like they do for Threadfin in the Brisbane river.
