Hi everyone – just wondering if I could pick some brains for advice on soft plastics fishing.
My last couple of trips out (broadwater/jumpinpin/southern bay) I have missed a number a quality fish by missing hook ups. IE the fish takes the lure, runs only to let go within about 5-10 sec – Ive mostly been targeting flathead and snapper at the times but its been frustrating me. Has anyone got any tips to convert hook ups better? any experience with stinger hooks on plastics? Or am I just having bad luck? Hooks have been new and sharp so I cant see that being the prob and plastics have been mostly zmans. Thanks tim
“Hooks have been new and sharp so I cant see that being the prob and plastics have been mostly zmans.” <<<<<< Thats your problem right there. Zmans have a shocking hookup rate compared to real soft plastics, not sure why.. maybe the springy plastic makes them hold onto the tail or something rather than going for the swallow. If you were to compare something like a Zman 3" Minnow to a Squidgy 75mm slick rig, the slick rig has a far higher hookup rate.
