Hi guys, heading down to Palmy this week weather permitting. Just hoping for some tips, seems to be some tuna around. Would you suggest grabbing some livies on the way down and just dropping over Craig’s live rig or do I need to troll around? Any advice would be great. Cheers derek
Mate you’ve probably been by now, but slow trolling livies is great for any pelagics, 2 hook rig front hook in nose, can try unweighted but normally need to get deeper, easiest is just running sinker above leader. seems a bit early but there’s been mackerel reports for which leader should be brown single strand wire
No dramas Gordo, went Tuesday, ripper of a day. Glassed out so flew down and back in the poly. Started good, slimies on the bait grounds and got a bonito on the bait jig as well. Not a lot of action, trolled a hex head around the gravel patch to palmy. Just drifted around a bit, had a slimie sliced up but no hook up so thinking a tailor. Makes sense what you are saying, trolled a couple of baits around but nothing. No one else seemed to be getting much action, water was so still. Came back up, threw a dead slimie at the north wall, hooked a nice tailor but through the hooks close to the boat. Good news is I got my first skitterbait fish on the wall, a big eye and a tailor, that was cool.
