Hi all,
Just joined up yesterday, I have been watching this site & reading everything I can before moving to the Gold Coast.
Found this site very helpful.
I moved up from the Central Coast NSW.
Have 4 boats atm lol. But the one you’ll be likely to see me in is an old Orange poly boat with a 15hp Mercury I just bought for it,
Boat is my tender that I have decided to use for fishing the Seaway after reading all the good info on here.
If you see me wondering around aimlessly lost, then drop over n say G’day.
I’m addicted to chasing Kingfish, Always chased in shallow water offshore & now cant wait to see if my experience in chasing them offshore will work inside the Seaway lol.
But I can see I’m going to have to learn all the areas in the seaway that I can catch live bait.
So now I have a question,
Whats the best way to catch these Pike, Will they take a live bait jig ?.

Sean, Welcome aboard.

Mate if you read some of Craig’s reports on live baits he explains why, where and how he go’s about getting them.
I just park under the Sundale bridge on the last of the run in and 1 or 2 hrs of the run out and get them around the pylons. I use a small SP lure, fling it as hard as I can, count to 5 then a slow steady retrieve. As it makes its way back up thru the water column is when you’ll get them.
This method will also get you a lot of small tailor but be careful of the size, remember tailor = 35cm. lately fisheries have been out and about checking everything..
I don’t know if there are a lot of differences between nsw and qld as far as boating rules but read up on them and size and bag limits are also different.

I’ve been looking on Google maps for this Sundale bridge without any luck,
which bridge is the Sundale bridge??

Yeah I have checked everything out in regards to size and bag limits already.
Boating laws and requirements.
Hopefully I get the outboard back from getting serviced & can get out there & catch a few little fishys lol.
I do also have GT’s high on my list of fish to catch since we never had them down sth.
The old silver trevs go hard, so I cant wait to hook a gt of the 4pld Bream gear.
I also wonder how the silver trevs go as live baits in the Seaway, They catch Kings down sth on trevs.

A couple of articles for you to read below. This time of year the fish aren’t feeding on surface much and are down deep so livebaiting is a decent way to go. Silver trevs would work great as a livie but we don’t see them in the seaway too often. Bigeye trevs would be okay but would more likely get you a shark than anything else. Best way to get a GT this time of year would be trolling a deep diving minnow around the Northern Y area(see map 1).

Sundale Bridge is the bridge that goes between Main Beach and Southport it has the new light rail go over it so its a fairly big bridge its near Marina Mirage if you are familiar with that hope this helps

Sorry for my ignorance, but is there an pm messaging on here.
I’m looking for the map you sent me and I cant find it anywhere mate.
Every website is different.
I’m so used to the forums I was on down in Newcastle, I just as lost on here as I am on the water up here 🙁
But the one thing I’ve always loved is the adventure of fishing new places.
Unfortunately my ocean going boat is still down sth till I can find cheap place up here to keep it.
Just found out today that there is a 10 year wait on moorings on the Gold Coast & the marinas want more than the boat is worth after a few years on them lol. \
