Hey guys, Been a while since I have both fished the Seaway much and had a computer to use lol.
I went out last Saturday afternoon down to the Trag grounds and fished into the night.
Just before dark I got smashed by what I can only assume were big arsed Cobia.
I was fishing 50pld brain on my Deablo with a near locked drag floating both a Live Tailor & a huge Slimmie.
First fish to go was the slimmie Didnt even notice the balloon go just heard my drag screaming once the fish had already reached the bottom, busted of fairly quickly lol.
The second fish under the balloon was a Tailor just legal,
About 10 minutes we seen the balloon pull & the reel started screaming,
Big powerful runs & big head shakes
I loaded the drag up to around 20kg & that oly pissed it off more.
Thought I had it after a few minutes till it decided to take a last run at the bottom eventually getting me in the reef.
Trag are every where, within an hour between 3 of us we had 20 fish, not noticing we had gone over our limit as we were throwing all fish under 42cm.
So we cooked up a quick feed there and then on the boat, Freshly caught and cooked Chilli Trag, yummmm.
A few other reef fish along with 5 Tailor around the 45cm mark.
Tried drifting a few livies in the Seaway on Sunday afternoon, but the boat is simply to big to get in close enough to the wall, The westerly wind howling & the incoming tide made it hard enough too.
Fished the deep hole out the front of Seaworld a few nights that we have come back in.
One night I hooked a Jew on a bait jig that had taken a liking to my hooked Pike,
Chucked the other half that was left back out & got seriously sharked. Good run, but bitten off.
Got sharked about 4 times that night & hooked a keeper bait board lol.
Taken a few good feeds of Whiting in the seaway over the past few weeks on live beach worms on nights we’ve stayed inside the Seaway.
Other than that just been smashing the Trag on every trip.

Hey ya Sean, how’s it been…? Sounds like u had some fun last Saturday. I’ve been out a few times trolling away just outside the seaway and right up to the 24’s to no avail. It’s really starting to give me the shits actually. I seem to have the nack of catching pike in the weedbeds north west of Wavebreak but never have any luck catching the Jews or even getting any hits. I really need to come out with one of u guys just to learn some technics (and have a beer or 2 or 3).
I’m on the hunt for a bigger boat (boat show is in 3 weeks), something like a Bayliner cruiser with toilet, kitchenette v birth bedding and under deck bedding and up to 25ft. Something I can take the family out on for weekends and can fish on comfortably.

well mate.
Take my advice then.
Make sure its a boat that can be trailered then.
Leaving them in water can be deadly to the pocket especially here on the Gold Coast.
My insurance here on the Gold Coast has jumped up from $101 per month to $365 p/m
Then you need to store it some where reliable,
I found someone who promised me that I could have the jetty im on long term otherwise I didnt want to take there,
They said no worries that they have lived there for 10 years and dont plan on moving.
They promised me a gate access key to come and go as I needed and power and water on the jetty.
4 weeks in they haven’t done any of the above & have now asked me to move the boat some where else because they are finding inconvenient having to be home to let me in and out o the gate lol.
away I’m moving it over to Runnaway Bay marina now & onto a hard stand.
Being on a hard stand my insurance will go back down to $102 p/m but paying the Marina $118 p/w.
But it will work out cheaper anyway in the long run.
Plus if you want to buy a boat for fishing and the family, then dont buy a family boat as they wont be going as often as you anyway.
But a fishing boat that the family can go in too.
The Riviera has beds, toilet, shower hot n cold water anyway.
The other downside is no more fishing the Seaway like you can in a smaller boat.
No more trolling for Pike in the shallows for me lol.

But after all that if you are still after a boat for both fishing & family I’m considering selling mine 🙂
