Late report but i got out on Fri dawn, threw some lures around north wall wash for 2 big eyes early. Kept feeling bumps with no hook up, which turned out to be the masses of luderick schooled up close to rocks. I fouled hooked 2 by accident. A few more big eyes were following lure to boat and a faster retrieve saw a few more hits…some were damn good fish but dropped before sighting. No tailor. Got a few yakkas then for a drift at end of wall towards low, that was quiet so moved to pipeline, had a few missed runs there suspected jew then the bream were chewing up the yakkas.
Mate perfect last few days if u can bare the cold, its glassed out today and im stuck looking at it from office. good night highs though the water is so clear even on low it will keep some things quiet. might jag a diver though.
Mate I went out on Monday night, hit the normal spot for some bait and while doing so picked up a 52cm flattie. then sat in the seaway till 3.30 with one 72cm jew to show for it… still cool out on the water with 10k SE blowing.. how you been doing?
Yeh haven’t been out much, usual family commitments etc. Only recent trip was last Sat arv, got some good tailor around north wall on dusk, then tried yakkas at the pipe towards low, nothing for us but saw the boat nearby land a good jewie, tried the end of wall too but nothing. If I pull my finger out in august will get some more night sessions in.
Thanks for the report mate, that water looked shocking but must have dispersed out to sea. I went out Fri morning, tried the north wall wash at dawn with a few minnows, very quiet no tailor etc. Got some yakkas and 1 slimey for the top of tide. Slimey was taken instantly by a 45cm tailor off north wall, very quiet then. Tried pipeline as tide started to run out, got a 66cm GT on yakka, quick pic then released.
ive been hitting the pin a bit lately. just looking for flat ones… found a few places that have numbers but no size to them….next time out ill try a few spots that worked for us last time up around Russell Isl.
Mate the pin is one area I’ve always intended to fish more, is an awesome place.
I went out Sat evening to try the pipe after the days carnage with race boats. Fished the bottom of run out with herring. Had a fair bit of action with lots of baits chewed up, probably pesky bream, plus 2 GTs 65cm and 55cm. None of the reported good jew from earlier in week….scared off perhaps.
Backed up Sunday morning, tried wash with minnows but no tailor, tried end of wall with herring but nothing so back to pipe for last of run out again. Pretty quiet hooked a nasty that felt like a shovelnose, whilst fighting that the other rod went so missed that, then broke off whatever it was. That was about it.
