My Q5’s transmission is perfect when cold but acts up when hot – opposite of everyone else?
So I’ve got a 2017 A4 Allroad with the 7-speed S-tronic and something’s been bugging me for a while now. Every time I shift from park or neutral into drive, there’s this brief squeaking or chirping noise that comes from the transmission area, almost like something is rubbing or sticking momentarily as the clutch engages. It only lasts for a split second and then the car drives perfectly fine with no other noises or issues, but it happens consistently every single time I put it in drive and I’m starting to wonder if it’s a sign of something wearing out. I’ve had a few people listen to it and they’ve all said it’s probably just the clutch engaging and not to worry, but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s getting slightly louder over time. The car has about 70,000 kilometers on it and the DSG service was done at 60,000, so I don’t think it’s a fluid issue. I’ve been doing some research and I’ve seen a few people mention similar noises that turned out to be the dual-mass flywheel starting to fail, or the clutch release bearing, both of which sound expensive. I found a place that’s described as a Premium Audi transmission repair workshop in Musaffah and I’m thinking maybe I should take it there for a proper inspection before this turns into something more serious. Has anyone else experienced this kind of squeaking noise when engaging drive on their S-tronic, and what was the cause and fix? I’m really hoping it’s something minor like a lubrication issue rather than the beginning of clutch failure, but I’d rather know now than be surprised later. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with this before.
