Left home on Saturday at 415am and was on the water about 545am could not get a mullet in the cast net after about an hour and a half of trying different spots, did manage to get about 20 herring in one cast though so I gave up and tried with hearing only to get bothered by bream the whole time, flesh baits were the same problem. Dropped the hook size from a 5/0 to a 1/0 and they would just hit the belly, only thing I landed was a some kind of orange stone fish about 20cm long. Threw a popper around over the pipe while anchored up for half an hour for nothing before I decided to go try for a flathead near Crab, managed 3 fish at 31cm, 35cm and 85cm but with the wind and tide holding me in position and not allowing a drift I decided my time was better spent trying to get some live bait so I pumped some yabbies and fished for some whiting, took another 2 hours to catch 3 legal whiting so it was back to the seaway around 2pm. Drifted around for half an hour until there was a little bit of run then anchored over the pipe. 3 guys in a larger boat with a fly bridge had been there since the early morning and repositioned at the change of the tide and about an hour later they landed a 92cm Jew, their first of the day. 10 minutes later I landed one at 88cm and next cast had another run but the hook didn’t set, out of live bait after that I went and tried for some more whiting and by 8pm I had another 3 so went back to the pipe, snagged up straight away and lost one due to the tide swinging a little and too heavier sinker. Thought I would throw a yabbie out on my alvey and surf rod with 12lb mono and try and catch a bream until the boat settled, first cast a nice bream about 30cm then a next cast not a bream as a it took off and I to hold hold my hand on the bottom of the spool, at first I thought it might be a sting ray but it didnt zig zag enough for that so second thought was a shovel nose, about 10 minutes in to the fight I could feel some nice big head shakes or tail thumps and began to get a little exciting thinking that it could actually be another Jew and after another 10 minutes I saw a big silver flash come up and to my delight it was an 80cm Jew. Gave myself some high fives then packed up and was at home by 11pm.
