My dad has a 4000 AIRD, avoid at all costs. While they are acceptable for bait fishing I would not use them for any sort of lure fishing. The drag on them stinks. The same could be said for many of Daiwa’s cheap reels. Shimano is much better at the cheap end of the market than Daiwa is.
If I were to choose an affordable reel for plastic fishing I would go with a Shimano Sedona, its bottom of the range($70.00) but it will handle just about anything you are likely to catch on plastics. There is also the Ecooda Havok, only $100 from motackle. From what i hear its a solid reel for the price. As for Daiwa, I’m a little annoyed about them due to the seizing of roller bearings too soon in a reels life cycle but you could go for something like a Aggrest 2500.
