Yes Wayno, he hit it off the surface about 1m away from the rock wall so he was hunting very close to the rocks.

Very nice… Especially nice to see you bring in something so huge on such light line!
Any tips on what action to use on the skitter pop?
I took your advice last time and bought some rapala skitter pop 90’s to work off the wall, near the end… Not even a strike yet.I’m arriving just before first light, and trying several locations (south wall, land based) until the sun is up.
Any idea what I’m doing wrong?Or am I just very out of my league??

Stomping, it sounds like you are doing it right but the south wall has always been a tough place to get fish, it doesn’t yield anywhere near the amount of fish that the north wall does. As for action, bloop it 3 or 4 times then pause it, then repeat. The pause is important for tailor.

Great fish guys, did you happen to get its weight? My best tailor from there last year was 2.6kg / 63cm on live mullet, was a very stocky fish though. That one looks long, lean and mean. Gordo

Gordo, no we didn’t weigh it, probably close to 4kg.

Very nice Tailor there fellas, well done. It seems to me, most of the tailor around at the moment are out of condition. I wonder what gives there, lack of bait ? Maybe they are feeling the competition from all the Salmon on their diet ? Cheers Stu

Stuart, most of the tailor being caught now are returning from fraser after spawning so they are all a bit skinny and quite a few have shark wounds. We might see some conditioned fish late december/early january.

I have the boat getting some maintenance and the lights fixed so i can get out there at night
